Flakey USB

The past few days my serial port to USB converter (which attaches the weather station data logger to the server) has been flakey. This is causing updates to not get posted to either the site or to Weather Underground.

I am going to replace it soon and hope that fixes this thing once and for all...

Replaced battery

Just got off the roof to replace a battery on the ISS unit. Measurements are now back online, just in time for the pending storms...

Finally fixed...

I have finally fixed the 5-minute site update, which had been broken since just before Halloween.

I'm not sure what exactly fixed it; I disassembled my server and completely cleaned it (it was completely caked with dust), reset all the cables, etc.

Anyway, my sincerest apologies to the 30 or so regular users of this site. I should have tackled this much sooner than I did...

Rain, rain, rain...

What a wet weekend. Almost 4 inches measured so far.

Unfortunately, it looks like my anemometer has flaked and is no longer reporting data. I've seen this in the past, and it often self-corrects. Hopefully it will do so shortly so that we don't miss out on any big gusts...

Inaccurate Rain Totals

In case it's not obvious, there have been a few days where the rain guage incorrectly read dozens of inches of rain.

The rain guage enclosure had blown off last week and I fixed it, thinking that the wind was batting around the rain levers. However, the past few days it did the same thing. Not sure what to make of it yet.

Anyway, any daily readings over 1-2 inches should just be ignored until it gets fixed.

High rainfall totals due to surf

As high tide is approaching, along with the deep swells due to the storm, my rain gauge is really racking up the inches. It is not due to a fault with the sensors but rather all the spray from the roaring surf hitting our roof.

Thank god our seawall is holding up nicely so far...

Weather station back online

The weather station powering coastalpacifica.com has been completely refurbished and is now back online. In addition, it is now once again roof-mounted, for greater accuracy in wind speed readings (it had been deck-mounted for the past year).

Thanks to Davis Instruments for the quick turnaround in doing the repairs.

It feels good to once again know exactly what's happening at the coast...
